PNWAS Summer Field Trip #2 Join Pacific Northwest Archaeological society for an exciting adventure this August 21st-24rd, 2015! We have planned an excursion to visit the site of the former dams on the Elwha River, and learn about the history of the River and see how the dam removals have given the river a new lease on life. Salmon have been returning to travel upriver and spawn, plants are growing along the river, and areas of great cultural significance to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe have been uncovered. We will also have the opportunity to visit the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center in Port Angeles, to learn more about the dam removal and river recovery, as well as learn about the history of the ancient Klallam village of Tse-whit-zen.
We will be camping on the Hoko River, with plenty of room on the beach for tents. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the Makah Museum in nearby Neah Bay, hike to Cape Flattery, and enjoy a salmon bake on the beach! We are looking forward to seeing you there, and you can make reservations through our PayPal site below.
