Ed Carriere explaining his replicated 2,000 year old Snoqualmie River basket, with the actual archaeological basket he replicated to a young visitor to earlier Archaeology Day at the Burke. Laura Phillips, Director of Archaeological Collections at the Burke enjoying all behind Ed.
In conjunction with our new book '"Living-Off-The-Land" for 4,000 Years on the Salish Sea' we will have lots of his salmon, shrimp, eel traps, and nettle fiber duck/salmon gill nets to show (see examples below). Also bring your books for signing and we will have our books for sale at the program for signing.
Also--as a new youth book on Ed, we will have Ila Barlean's "Oh Little Cedar Basket", and hopefully
coloring book, for kids available, and she will sign.

Cover of our new book covering the 1st 1/2 of Ed's life using 44 natural resources (shellfish, fish, ducks, deer, berry crops and basketry raw materials to make traps and nets) to support him and his Great Grandmother Julia Jacob’s. Dale compares these 44 natural resources to the shells, bones, seeds from 9 archaeological sites within 20 miles of Ed's home/allotment, and found 4,000 years of continuity, sustainability, no overuse, and no species driven to extinction--unfortunately the case during the last 200 years. We hope this helps turn that around!!!!

SOON a coloring book edition of Ila's Oh Little Cedar Basket book describing, in poetry, Ed making cedar limb and root baskets!
